Swing Keel - New Plate

It has been suggested to me that as my current plate is beginning to corrode it could be worthwhile replacing it with a stainless steel one. I'm concerned this could alter the weight down below but presumably corrosion would, if it's fitted properly, become a thing of the past. Has anyone done this?...

Good choice Derek. My Dockrell 22 was my first real taste of sailing of any kind. She seems reasonably nippy if you work the wind and tides on this stretch of the Devon Coast (Salcombe) even though she has bilge plates. My alternator output goes direct to the battery terminals and the battery is secured in my toilet compartment - starboard side just under the cockpit seat. I don't know enough to advise on switch wiring but at least it's only 12volts if you get it wrong. Good luck ![:)]

For what it's worth if you mean the bilge keels, then on mine they are just screwed and sealed direct to the fibreglass. I was told by the previous owner that the 22 was really just a drop keel design with bilge plates added as an afterthought for those, like me, needing to take the mud. Hope this h...

According the original spec. sheet which came with my boat the displacement including outboard (Which was originally a Seagull I believe) is 2575lbs (1169kg).

Lifting Keel (or not as often happens)

Has anyone come up with a relatively foolproof way of either stopping the keel sticking in the stored position or easily freeing it after the boat has been dried out? I am on a drying mooring and no I don't want to change it.
